Two Bit Woodworks - Keith Schoeneick

Hello, I’m Keith Schoeneick

Two Bit Woodworks

I started my journey in woodworking and DIY in my younger years with a neighbor that always had his shop open for the neighborhood kids to make gifts during the holidays. That was my first peek into how open and supportive the woodworking community is, and it’s nice to see that has not changed over the years.

Before I got into design and woodworking, I was leading a much different life, serving in the United States Army on active duty with the 101st Airborne Division. During my time in the U.S. Army, I learned quite a bit more about woodworking, carpentry, and DIY home improvement by helping to rebuild structures in areas with a high need for repair. Near the end of my military career, I started to get heavily involved with graphic design and web development as well.

Upon finishing my career (I was medically retired) in the United States Army, I took nearly six months off to find my next path in life. I started school to get my degree in graphic design and I got more and more into woodworking. I really developed a deep passion for building and doing things myself.

In 2010, shortly after getting married, my wife and I bought our first house, a builder-grade two-story colonial on the outskirts of Asbury Park, NJ, and that’s where the “fun” began. Over the next 6 years, I quickly learned more about DIY home repair. I was able to learn the extent of my abilities and what I would and would not feel comfortable attempting without the help of a professional.

In the fall of 2016, we got the itch to move away from the ocean and head out to the “country” part of New Jersey. In less than 6 weeks we sold our own home and bought a new house. Did I mention that we also moved all our stuff ourselves? (with the help of friends and family of course) We saved a ton of money by doing things our self, and it paid off in the end. It was another confirmation that doing things yourself, when possible, can be very rewarding!

UNITED STATES ARMY & COLLEGE

I served in the United States Army from 1994 until 2003 as a Forward Observer and Military Police Officer. I was medically discharged in 2003 and returned home to attend college part-time at Monmouth University in order to get my bachelors degree in graphic design

GRAPHIC DESIGNER & WEB DEVELOPER

I have been a graphic designer and web developer for over 20 years. I specialize in WordPress website development as well as branding and print design. My expertise in design and aesthetics provides me with valuable insight into what people are drawn to.

WOODWORKER & CONTENT CREATOR

Woodworking is something that I have always enjoyed doing. Knowing that you have the ability to fix things in your home or to build what you need is a truly satisfying experience. I am thoroughly enjoying my hobby and building things as a creative outlet.

So Why Two Bit Woodworks?

The phrase “two-bit” means insignificant, cheap, or worthless. Therein lies the irony. So why did I go with the name Two Bit Woodworks you ask? Well after a lot of deliberation and ideas that were already taken, I decided to look closely at why it is that I wanted to expand my journey into woodworking. It’s for my son, Owen, my little bit. I want him to see that you can do almost anything yourself and that all it takes is some patience, perseverance, and the inevitable mistakes you turn into learning moments.

The second bit is our fur baby, Bailey. He was our first little one after we got married. My Two Bits are what inspire me to keep creating things. And of course, I cannot forget the most supporting figure in my life, my wife Danielle. She didn’t bat an eye when I told her I wanted to convert our one car garage into a woodworking shop, buy my starting lineup of tools, and start a YouTube channel for my woodworking projects. She fully supports me as I follow my passion for woodworking. She truly is one of the best things in my life.

If you’ve made it this far, you now know a little bit more about me and my journey. I love the idea that I can help others on the same path, to create something that you can be proud of. Also, I enjoy seeing what you make, so please share it with me on FacebookInstagram, or YouTube.
